The scent of the endless night for Fall season – Penhaligon’s “The Dandy” fragrance
Dear readers, in your opinion, what did the Fall season smells like? Maybe it’s the subtle scent from the caramel brown suede jacket with the brownish fallen Maple tree leaves and a cup of hot black coffee at your hands? Or the nostalgic scent of an old book and a fresh baked pumpkin pie, mixed with woody smell of the burning wood in the fireplace and scented candle in Cinnamon, clove and orange peel that evokes a certain kind of homey and festive smell? To me, for this year, the scent of the Fall season smells like somewhat a bit of a sensual woody, with a bit of whisky (or Licorice-like) and aromatic in a classy gentleman’s evening home gathering, but where did I get this idea from? Well, thanks to the discovery of the new fragrance “The Dandy” by the historic British perfume house, Penhaligon’s, during one of the weekend when I was trying out this new perfume in one of their boutique, which I think it’s such a wonderful fragrance for a stylishly dressed gentleman for this Fall Winter season.
As a woody celebration of whisky blended with mischief, this new fragrance inspired by the luxurious and dark English gentlemen’s evening soiree, surrounded by an ambient with elegant mystery, glamorous indulgence and the joyful jazz music endless serving of whisky and bourbon, and of course, the most handsome fine gents in their smoking jackets or tuxedos, either throwing their witty jokes with guests or enjoying their drinks at hand, this fragrance captured the most stylish and sumptuous evening party that never ends in the quintessential modern English style. Their Art Deco inspired packaging instantly appeals me at the first place, the black and golden yellow color with its Art Deco style design, it literally reminds me of the beautiful party scent in the movie “The Great Gatsby” (the 2013 version, in particular the cinematic, modern glamour feel by film director Mr. Baz Luhrmann), the iconic bowtie décor at the neck of the brand’s perfume bottle cap in the matching color that resembling the bowtie of the tuxedo of a gentlemen’s attire, which fits the theme of this fragrance perfectly!
Created by perfumer Mr. Fabrice Pellegrin, this fragrance opens with the refreshing and fruity scent of bergamot, cedrat essence and raspberry as the prelude of the sumptuous soiree, then it enters into the glamorous middle note with the intoxicating whisky accord and oak chip, adding the sophisticated Englishman touch with the Cedarwood essence, the fragrance then dries down with the luxurious and indulging woody and aromatic notes by the unique Clearwood, patchouli and ambrox. Such intoxicating and seductive scent lingered on my skin about 6 to 8 hours, which enables me to create a vivid image of such glamorous English gentlemen’s evening soiree with some jazz music in my head, at the same time, it evokes the warmth and gentleness of how a stylish Fall Winter should smell like, especially for this year.
To be in a sumptuous and stylish gentleman soiree with the luxurious English flair, sometimes all it takes is just a couple sprays of a sumptuous perfume away.
