Unique beauty - KV by Kateryna Vel’menko perfume

Dear readers, one of the largest beauty trade shows, Cosmoprof Asia, was recently held in my city back in Nov last year; in fact, I didn’t have any intention to go, even in the past, however, this year was a bit exceptional due to my day job, and I eventually went for a quick visit. While seeing the huge signage at the hall entrance that there was a section dedicated to perfume exhibitors, as a perfume enthusiast, of course, I would like to check out and see what’s in there! With multiple exhibitors from Japan and Korea, even from Turkey to France, I stumbled across a glass showcase at one of the perfume booth, and inside that showcase, there’s a perfume bottle that constantly draws my attention, the turquoise color egg-shape like top with gold color veins, a clear cylinder glass bottle with a golden colored, internal-carved sand dune at the base of the bottle, which I find it very intriguing! And that’s my first encounter with the Italy perfume brand, KV by Kateryna Vel’menko.

Founded by Ms. Kateryna Vel’menko, this beautiful niche perfume brand, in fact, was launched barely in last year! As a new brand with their most recent exhibition done in Pitti Fragranze in Florence back in Sept 2024, the perfume by KV by Kateryna Vel’menko takes pride of their innovation and creativity, to shape up their own vision and olfactory aesthetic to express memories, emotions, and desires through their perfume creation in a modern and authentic way. As a perfumer and Founder herself, Kateryna also worked with multiple exceptional perfumers to create her perfume collection.

While the Founder was pretty busy with her client meeting during my visit, I managed to greet and have a brief chat with her to understand a bit about her creation, of course, my curiosity was not limited to her creative ideas and her perfume bottle design, what excites me the most is to try out her sumptuous perfume from the line, and see how they smell like! There are a total of 11 perfumes in KV by Kateryna Vel’menko’s collection, and there are two (well, perhaps three I should say) that I find memorable.

First of all, the “Not a Morning Person” is something that I find it relatively unique, a very special woody-tea perfume that opens with Saffron and Black Tea, then the beautiful Damask Rose starts to develop before it dries down to the woody musky notes included Virginian Cedar, musk and tobacco. The perfumer of this fragrance is Kateryna herself, and this unique scent of black tea derives from the traditional one served in the Middle East, its rich and deep accord which is only served in both afternoon and evening! On top of that, the clever and unconventional combination of Saffron, Damask Rose, and Tobacco, makes this perfume even more alluring and mysterious whilst exuding certain sumptuousness that it’s elusive and poetic. For those who are interested in Persian fairytales and Middle-Eastern mysteries, this unisex fragrance could be quite a beautiful option to be used all year round.

On the other hand, the “Amore Dolce Amaro” appeals me with its luminous floral, the gentle woodiness combined with a touch of gourmand accord; created by Ms. Camille Chemardin, a young talented perfumer from the French company, Flair, it opens with the uplifting Cherry Blossom and Marzipan, plus a little bit of fruitiness of the cherry, then the gentle creaminess of the honey mixed with coconut, as well as the floral sharpness from Tuberose, makes this perfume becomes relatively gentle and dreamy, the dry down of Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Davana gives the backbone to this fragrance that enriches its complexity, a delicate fragrance ideal for spring with a bright and euphoric feel.
Besides updating your wardrobe for the new season, perhaps it’s about time to update your very own perfume cabinet too.
